Rainy season in San Blas, Panama and Colombia

The rainy season for the Caribbean coast of Colombia and Panama starts already in April/May and lasts until the beginning of December.

We understand that many are concerned about the rainy season. No one wants to get the whole vacation spoiled by pouring rain every day, but there is not much reason to postpone your trip because of this.

The first part of the rainy season mostly means that it CAN rain. In the windy season that lasts from December to April, it actually does not rain at all. Thus, with the introduction of the rainy season in April the skies have the ability to produce raindrops. It does not mean they do ALL the time.

The first part of the rainy season in Colombia and Panama can go days and weeks before a rainfall, and the heavier rainy season does not come until the second half of the period which is in September to November. This is when you have the most chance of experience rain.

Still, no need for panic if your tickets show this time of the year. Most rain falls in heavy rainy season comes in showers once or maybe twice a day, but it does not even need to rain every day. Showers are very local. It can be raining in one part of a town and be sunny in another. It is also perfectly possible to have days with nothing but sunshine. In fact, it is quite rare you see a whole day of rain, and even less frequent days of rain in a row.

The main advantage of making your Colombia Panama Sailing trip in the heavy rainy season is that this is the low season. So, if you like more space on the boats and the islands, this is the time to go. However, this is also the time many boats take some time off to do maintenance. So, there may be fewer dates available to sail, but there is always someone working. So, plan ahead and go sailing in the rainy season in the San Blas!
